    headlamp brackets

    I bought a pair of headlamp ears, supposedly ok for GS 850/1000.
    The first odd thing is, they have screws on the back holdng the two parts, instead of the usual spot welding;
    the second, more obvious, is they seem to be on the short side.

    They also seem to be narrow, or the headlamp is bigger then it need be;
    When mounted, the turning signals are not straight, but bent backward.

    The headlight measures 20cm/8''

    Is there something out of spec?

    Thanks

    Lorenzo, Not sure about 850/1000, but my 400 has a 6 3/4 inch headlight. Those ears would suit my bike.

    Your forks appear to be the same width apart (about 7 inches) as mine so you would need some special ears to suit your wider lamp.
    have a look here http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs1000_model13502/ and see if there's anything obvious.

      Thanks Gor
      Is anyone in the condition of measuring the diameter of an original 1000 headlamp and the spacing between top and bottom triples?
      Thanks

          You bought 850/100GL ears. You need ones from a G model. They are black, not chrome.

            2nd what rusty said. The L headlamp is narrower so the brackets have more offset. The ones you have are for an L headlamp and not the G.

            Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.

              So, I could keep the 8" lamp, given the fact that I replaced the glass part with a unit which has not got the usual scallops and ribs, but it's much brighter (still with a 55/60 alogen lamp).
              I am planning to make the relays mod so things should improve further.
