That looks like factory paint to me. It is my understanding that the lower case was not always painted at the factory.

Suzuki painted the engine silver, other than the lower crankcase half and some of the bolt on covers such as for the sump and oil filter.

Thanks guys. I was hoping it was po as it is very sloppy. anyone try to finish off the rest where they left off? any ideas on paint to use and exact color match etc.

Exact you're not going to find as the paint has faded over the years. VHT universal aluminum, sp127, appears to be a decent match.

What they said, also the clutch and stator covers were originally painted with a clear that is mostly in sad shape by now. You can see what's left of it in your pictures.
