    how soon can dust nibs be sanded out of clearcoat?

    I've got my black base coat on today, and I was getting some dust in each coat. I'm doing this in my garage with no booth. No problem, light sanding on the affected areas after 15 - 20 minutes and spray the next coat. For clear, I'm using Finish 1 (2 part) from Sherwinn-Williams. Assuming I'll get dust in each coat of clear, how long do I need each coat to dry before I can sand the dust out? I'll be putting on 4 - 5 coats to bury my pinstripe decals, and I'm hoping I don't have to do 1 coat per day.

    I wouldn't worry so much about every spec of dirt. Unless it's a "chunk" or if it's a different color. Spray 2-3 coats of clear, let it dry for at least 24 hrs. Sand with 600 grit (using a block), spray another 2-3 coats, let it dry again, and then final sand it smooth starting with 600 then progress to-800-1000-1500-2000 and rub it out.

      f your getting dirt in every coat then I would think your air movement is dislodging crap from the roof trusses, the walls, or wherever theres exposed dirt. Gonna ( maybe) be hard to eliminate contamination. Wish you good fortune though.

        If you can string some plastic up above you while you do it that would help.. & either damp down or cover the floor.

          Blowing air in (pressurizing) the booth creates less dust than sucking it out. But you need some sort of plastic enclosure to paint in. See if you can find a nib file locally. You can use those gently fairly soon after it flashes. Good for runs as well, you will have to wait longer. http://www.eastwood.com/painters-nib...oduct_id=34000

            You'll need to replace the plastic from time to time as over spray tends to flake off.
