Smallest fuel tank that will fit GS1000

GS1000 L tanks are smaller.. not in width but length..
It only holds 4 gallons.. It would require moving the front bushing mount back and maybe the rear mount forward a little (not sure about the rear mount)

LOL.. ok, I'll trade my 850 tank and a tiny bit of money.
The 850 tank might be about the same length as the L tank but it looks better with the knee dents.

No stock seat; the one in the photo is off a GS450. AHRMA requires a stock seat pan and I think this will qualify and it's smaller and better suited for racing than the massive bar stool stock one. I put velocity stacks on mine and you can have the stock air box and boots for a nominal amount if you want. I can send some pictures tonight, just let me know.

Yes, the whole thing carb-to-air box boots and clamps, airbox, rear filter box with lid, and rubber boot between the air box and filter box, with clamp), even an extra new filter that I can throw in.

The 850 tank is one of the biggest... bigger than what you have now.

If the tank was a Scrapper I'd say cut it down & weld it..... In reality they are not all that heavy but might require you to carry a bit more fuel than you really need due to the surface area of the bottom I guess.

Perhaps if he ran with an open valve it might not require as much fuel to reach the line?

I was just kidding I couldn't trade a L for a 78 E tank and not feel like a snake in the process.. E's are to valuable..

He could cut the petcock spout down or if he did cut a tank down he could also weld a baffle internally so that it was compartmented to keep all the fuel in a small area....

Then he could use the front/main part of the tank to "hide" other stuff and clean up the look of the bike even more, hehe! I actually like the "stealth" tank idea a lot!

So here's a picture of the tank (now green). See how close it sits down on the frame and how close the petcock is to the carb? I've got stock pads under it, and front and rear, but the tank almost touches the exhaust cam cover. I'm still not sure this is the correct tank for this bike. (Sorry I haven't yet figured out how to insert an image properly and I'll go thread hunting now to get educated.)
