    Bench Sync Question

    Hello all,

    I am doing a bench sync on my VM26 carbs; while doing so, using the Musser carb rebuild instructions of BassCliffs website, my #2 carb slide does not completely close as the rest of the carbs do when bottoming out the slides. I would say there is .5 mm difference with light shining through ( the others are little or no light coming through). The difference seems to be in the adjustment screw as there is no adjustment left to lower the slide further. So in this case should I sync the rest of the carbs to the #2 carb?

    Here is a picture of #2 and #1.

    Other strange things going on here; the idle screw adjustment has very little adjustment left when contacting the cable pully, maybe 1 1/4 full turn. This bike, a '78 GS1000C, has had parts from other bikes added to it for replacement, most obvious was a 80-81 tank; a seat that has had the seat hinges modified to fit; and now I am thinking that carb parts and associated linkage may have been swapped in. Definately a mutt.

    I think you are going to have to sync around that one slide. The bike won't run with the slides completely closed so no worry with that.

      Lift the other slides to match that one and they ALL will come down.

        Yah, raise the other three slides. the spring will close the gap with the raising of the last slide. Find the middle of that adjustable range.

        If you're re really far off, you might have to loosen the bellcrank bolt from the throttle rod to find the mid-point of the arms rotation about hole in the rod.

          Ahhh, yes. Should be an addendum for the uninitiated;-}

          Thanks, Steve.
