    Stuck Slide Assembly

I know I'm missing something but can't figure it out. The carbs are off and one is completely disassembled except the slide assembly. It slides smoothly up the carb body to the point of being wide open and then just stops dead...does this on all four of them...which makes me think I'm missing something.

    VM carbs off a 79 GS 750
    Any insight is appreciated.

The only thing that makes sense is damage to the slide bores. inspect the top of the bore(s) carefully.

is there damage to the bottom of the slide not allowing it to be removed?

Dumb question... Have you removed the bar that holds them all in???

Bores look smooth. They all stop at exactly the same point and it's not like there's a building resistance...they slide smoothly and then just stop when the air intake is wide open. Like they are hitting something and not supposed to move any further.

            Are the bodies separated?

I've got one separated (and almost completely apart) from the other three right now but they all stop (even the single one) at the exact same point.

Look for any witness marks or damage under bright light. I can assure you they normally slide right out of the bore. http://img191.imageshack.us/f/pict2951.jpg/

I'm stumped. There really isn't much that can hold it in, unless all the slide bores got damaged in the same place and that doesn't seem too likely.

                    Are they totally stock???

There are only three things, that I could think of, which would not allow the slide to be removed. damage to the bore, damage to the slide or crud/rust/damage on (to) the needle which stops the needle from being extracted through the 'jet-needle'.

you can try removing the lifter arm while the slide is still in the bore and see if you can remove the needle.
***be careful those screws can be tight and you could damage the tab that indexes the slide.***

I got the lifter arm out along with the needle so it's just the slide in the bore. Beyond my concern as to why the slides won't come out, I really wanted to dip the carb bodies and don't know if that's smart with the slides still inside.

From everything I've seen and read...almost positive.

                            You can...

try one and see if the slide will remove after it comes out from the dip.

Dipped the #1 carb and the slide assembly still won't come out. Made a video so you can see what I'm up against. Here's the link
