Tank liner removal
Hope this is the right place since it pertains to the tank.. The Kreem sight says to fill the tanks half full with either MEK or acetone and agitate periodically. Let sit for 24 hrs. Are there any other chemicals that will dissolve the stuff faster and are less expensive than buying 2 1/2 gallons of the other stuff??MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I have to imagine "The Works", would eat just about anything. Burned a hole in my concrete floor.

Didnt someone try that and it actually ate the tank to bits???MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I went to Lowe's and bought the "Kleen strip" K-3 paint stripper. Pour that into the tank and add a package of aquarium rocks from wal-mart and you should be good to go.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that I learned this from Mr. Nessism.
I left the combination of paint stripper and rocks in my tank for several days and would just pick it up every chance I got to shake the **** out of it.
If you do a search on this process, you will find Nessism's recomended procedure. Very helpful.
Good luck.

Is it just rust that needs to be cleared out? (Still new to all this so forgive me if there is something else in there that needs to be cleaned up) I stumbled on this stuff and it sounds pretty amazing to me. http://www.metalrescue.com/home.aspx $25 for a gallon and only eats rust.

I used it on my rusty nasty tank and used baking soda to neutralize any leftover acid. No leaks to speak of.

The issue with the tank isnt rust...its removing the old Kreem tank liner. How long is th recommanded soak time for The Works??MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Chuck, I'd recommend you stay away from using anything HCL based to remove the tank liner as it attacks metal. https://files.me.com/quinn_derek/6ncl05
I think it best to use paint stripper.

Imho that tank is still too rusty to use. Still lots of rust in there that can flake off and clog your carbs.
