    hi!
i'm urgently looking for a dealer who can supply parts for mikuni vm26 carbs...
    preferably in or around belgium!
or does anyone have a spare "idle mixture screw" for a 1979 gs 850 lying around? that would be awesome!

    Hi,

Have you considered http://www.cmsnl.com/ ? I think they're right next door in the Netherlands.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

I could have brought some for you. Hanging in Liege tonight, wish I had a GS here.

i know cms all to well... ordered a sh*tload of parts there before but guess what? they don't have the part i need... been askin' classic bike restorers, classic bike-junkyards.... i'm starting to think my GS has some sort of unique prototype carb :-) some guy send me a picture saying: hey, i have a full GS 850 carb-set which you can buy for 25€! i was like: GREAT! but it turns out it doesn't look anything like mine... does anyone know what type of mikuni was originally mounted on a 1979 GS 850?

          Hi,

We here in the states got the Mikuni VM26SS carbs on the '79 GS850G.

Here are some other carb vendors...

Sudco International - Carburetor parts, Classic & Late Model Replacement & Performance Parts, etc.
          http://www.sudco.com/ (http://www.sudco.com/oemcarbparts.html)
          MotorcycleCarbs.com - Carburetor parts, etc.
          http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/index.cfm
Jets R Us - Carburetor parts, filters, gauges, etc.
          http://www.jetsrus.com/

          You might also try www.z1enterprises.com.

          Thank you for your indulgence,

          BassCliff

I might have one lying around?
            I will check tomorrow.
What's strange is that I thought the GS 850's came with CV carbs?
On the CSML diagram what's the part number you are looking for?
Please give me the internet address of the page you are looking at.

i'm from belgium so i can't say for sure if i have the US model but on the other hand, i can't find any information about "european" GS 850 models or anything else... all GS 850's from '79 seem to be US model...

on the CMS page this is where i'm looking:

it looks precisely like mine except the idle screw is nowhere to be found... very strange...

i have a picture of it, perhaps i can email it to you so you can compare? it looks unlike any other i've seen so far online! except here:

there you can see the broken off screws!

if i type VM26SS on google i get pictures of a lot of different types of carbs so that doesn't really help... it just makes me freak out more!

mind if i send you the picture so you can check?

Those are known as Fuel Screws. I was going to offer you an air screw as I've got a few spares of them but I haven't got any spare fuel screws.

They don't show up on the parts diagrams as you aren't supposed to fiddle with them (they're factory pre-set). Everybody has though.
                79 GS1000S
                79 GS1000S (another one)
                80 GSX750
                80 GS550
                80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

Is the problem with the one you have, the tip is broken off?

(or if you prefer, is the tip broken on the one you have?)

Interestingly enough, I had exactly the same issue with one of my VM 26 carbs.
It's a pity I had not seen the note on how to extract it because in the end I purchased another carb body
I might have a spare for you?
Please advise if you still need it?
Else tell me which carb it is and I can sell you the carb if it's not the one I used.

with the airfilters facing you, it's the 2nd one... 25% chance i catch a break here changing the whole carb wouldn't be such a bad idea since i had to use some force to get the tip out, the hole in the air-channel has enlarged a little so that might cause an issue... could you email me a picture of the carb just to be sure it's the same type? nr1freak@hotmail.com are you from the US?
                          thx in advance!

If you've a watchmaker near by or, some one with a small lathe, see if they will chuck it up in a collet and file the tip to a different angle which should be followed up by a light burnishing. mind you the necessary number of turns to allow the same amount of fuel than the other three would be different; but it should make you a serviceable needle in short order.
