    o rings for cv carbs

    Since I started a little side business using my ultra sonic cleaner to clean carbs, I have tried to keep expenses down for my customers by sourcing less expensive ways to purchase parts. I am looking for the specs (sizes) of the o rings for the cv carbs. I am in Canada & think I can order them from my local Fastenal store if I know the sizes. They need to be Viton, right?

    I imagine someone has done this before. Can anyone help?
    80 gs1100 16-v ported & polished, 1 mm oversize intake valves, 1150 carbs w/Dynojet stage 3, plus Bandit/gsxr upgrades

    I don't think you can get much cheaper than getting them from cycleorings.com

      I think it was Brian Wringer who, just a few days ago, posted the sizes of the o-rings used in and around the carbs. You can look around and I will as well when I get the time.

            The correct sizes for the CV carb O-rings are in the rebuild tutorial linked in my signature. Viton O-rings are superior, but more expensive.

            BTW, the pilot mixture screw O-ring is an odd size and difficult to find. Please share if you find a good source for the proper size.

              Thats perfect, thanks. A package of orings is only a few dollars. I have always purchased them from cycleorings & will continue to do so if the cost of buying my own is prohibitive.

                I think you may use nitrile O-rings. Stable for long term use and oil-resistance is good. Will work up to 110 C.

                  I have no idea what size o-rings are used inside the carbs. It's too darn easy to just buy them from Robert Barr, and he's a really nice guy besides. Even if I did have a list, I wouldn't want to undercut his retirement plan.


                  I probably posted the o-rings used in the intake boots, not the carbs.

                  For the GS850 (38mm ID intake o-rings), -128 Viton o-rings are a very close match. They're a wee tad bit fatter in cross-section, which I view as a good thing. Mine have been in there for several years...

                  For the larger models (GS1100G/GK, among many others) that use 40mm ID o-rings, -129 Viton works quite well.

                  I think I've used -125 and -123 o-rings on models needing 34mm and 30mm intake o-rings, but don't quote me on that. Measure yourself and make your own decisions. Don't EVER try using hardware store o-rings in your intakes -- they'll degrade with surprising speed. Get Viton, which is heat-resistant.

                  For the o-rings in the carbs, Nitrile (buna-n) is the perfect material -- the right flexibility, and you most certainly don't need the 400 degree heat resistance of Viton. Viton isn't automatically better just because it has a cool name -- the rubber is a bit harder, for one.

                  The "dash" system of numbering o-rings is prevalent here in the metrically retarded US of damn A, but if you can get Viton o-rings in the correct metric sizes, it's probably better.

                  The cross-section is probably 2.5 or 2.4mm, but you'll want to measure the depth of the slot on your intake boots to decide.

                  Or, just order the silly things from Suzuki. Two bucks each isn't going to break you. I work on a lot of bikes, so it's good to have these around. For normal people, it's easier to just order the correct parts from the source and spend your time and energy thinking about other things.
