Rejetting issue
Just bought my 1st GS. Super excited. Its in great running order. 82 850. Engine has less than 1000k miles on it. Anyway previous owner put pods on and stage 3 jet kit. Now when I go over 50mph it tends to bog out under heavy throttle. My assumption is the jets are too big. Any other ideas? Any adjustments I might be missing other than the obvious?Tags: None

When I first installed a stage three jet kit (low mileage motor), I had the same symptoms. Dropping the needles by raising the clips one notch cured it. It was too rich and eventually started fouling out plugs at the recommended settings. I keep an eye on it, I expect things to change with wear.Last edited by OldVet66; 07-11-2012, 09:42 AM.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

On my 850 with Pods and Mac 4-1 w/ "racing" insert, I found that the Dyno-Jet Stage 3 jetting recommendations were too rich. The 165s and 160s were both too much. I now have the 155's in there and it is running great.
As I've mentioned in another thread... make sure your pods are NOT over-oiled.
I was able to eliminate some variables while getting the jetting right by removing the pods and riding it around that way for one trip home. This confirmed that the pods were the issue. Once I cleaned them up and LIGHTLY oiled them, the jetting seemed to come back into balance. Not 100% perfect, but I think I'm in the 95% ball-park, which feels pretty great...

Well it looks like the main jet needles on two of the carbs dont match the other two. Like their shorter, idt whoever did the jet kit knew what they were doing. But the jets are too big, Ill get it running right and after a good long run the plugs fowl up and cylinders dont fire. So im thinking of going back to original jetting. ,. .
