Cheap muffler connectors
Installed a new(used) pre-muffler yesterday and tried to use the old connector gaskets. Of course, they are leaking. New ones are $16, but I have seen ones for other bikes anywhere from $2 - $4. $64 is a good chunk of my budget. Anyone know which of the cheaper options would fit?https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

header wrap
Yeah, a friend told me he's done that before as a short term fix.https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

any adhesive?
Tried the header wrap and it was better, but still wouldn't seal all the way. So I bit the bullet and ordered new ones. Should they go in dry, or should I use some high temp silicone?https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

I can't see any reason for hi-temp silicone to be used. Just make sure the flanges and clamps are opened up enough that the head pipes can easily be slipped into the crossover and the crossover will slip into the mufflers.Last edited by rustybronco; 09-26-2013, 08:18 PM.

I've used exhaust gasket paper and made my own, worked like a charm.Rob

success!
The new connectors arrived earlier this week. First time around, they still leaked. Took them apart again and used some Permatex tailpipe and muffler sealant along with the new connectors. We now have....(drumroll please)....success! No more leaky exhaust! Now on to more fun stuff.https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs
