1978 GS1000E Fuel Petcock - Conversion?

    I haven't seen one of those before, that filter bowl is something I haven't seen on GS petcocks. Last time I saw one that had a filter bowl on it was my '72 CB450 Honda. I actually liked them, instead of collecting crap in the tank, it just settled in the bowl and you took it off and dumped it. Couldn't have been any easier.
    I don't think I'd waste my time on it if it's going to damage your tank just to mount it.

      The numbers stamped on the side of the housing, should help with it's identification.

            You have to be careful that it doesn't clash with the top of the Carburettors. The VM & CV petcocks are a different shape due to that I believe....

                Not trying to hijack this thread, but this is the perfect time to try to sort out the petcock issue on my '79 1000e. Mine works well, but is starting to leak a little. When I was bringing this thing back from the dead, there were some questions about what my tank/petcock combo was. That discussion starts at post #60 here:

                The original owner told me the original tank was replaced. He didn't mention the petcock, so I assume it is original. Something is not right though, because the lever rubs on the airbox in the ON position, and the lines are an SOB to fit to the petcock. Pic is the bike as it sits now. Any ideas? I suppose I should just pull the tank and remove petcock so I can get a good look at it.

                      I'll check, of course, but I'm pretty competent on this stuff. I probably would have noticed that. Probably. Tank doesn't rattle, or seem loose. Fits good with the seat.

                        Your leaks are probably from the 2 seals getting old and hard

                        One is an flat O ring that goes around the lever. The other one is the disc behind the lever. Replace those and you're good to go

                        And yes, I'm betting the guys are right and you're missing the rear cushion. It sits across the frame right above where the tank bolt goes in

                                Thanks for the offer. I think if I have to order the petcock stuff, I'll just get that too, if it's available. I need to first make sure that's the problem. I'll check back soon.
