      Pull the signal gen cover off and check the cam timing.
      Measure the secondary resistance on both coils from plug cap to plug cap.

      Might be able to make it to your place either Thursday or Friday evening if need be.

        I appreciate the offer a great deal. I'm out of my pay grade here big time.

        Here's a thought - is it possible my process on the valves was bad and I over-cranked (and thereby slightly opened) them? I tightened the adjustment screws down to my feeler gauge and then yanked the gauge out.

        Maybe I should go the other direction and loosen them till the gauge goes in?

          After the nut has been tightened, the guage should still slide smoothly, with just a slight bit of drag.

            Anything is possible. If you are unsure with your adjustment procedure, just go back over what you had done and double check everything.

              Problem solved. GIANT rookie mistake on the valves. Backed them all off, then went through it again with a gentler hand - bike started instantly and runs great.

              So I'll never do that again.

                  no damn compression...
                  as long as the nut is super tight as not to vibrate loose into the engine you are golden.
