    GSX1100G petcock

I just picked up a 1991 GSX1100G. The PO told me to turn the petcock to off when not riding the bike. Does this bike have a vacuum operated petcock? Is it really necessary to turn the gas off when you park it? I never had to do that with any other bike I have owned, including a 1982 GS650G.

The GSX1100G has an electric fuel pump. Fuel doesn't flow when the bike is off, so you don't need to shut the petcock off when you park it.

You do need to shut the petcock off when removing the tank, of course. And you use the lever to switch to reserve if needed.
