    Found good US source for SS exhaust studs

    If you feel like swapping your exhaust bolts for stainless steel studs I just came across a US seller on ebay in Utah.
    M8 x 1.25 x 40mm
    Stainless steel with a 4mm recessed allen head on the end.
    $3.88 for 4 pieces. + 3$ shipping for any quantity.

    Only 10.76 for a set of 8 shipped.

    Best deal this side of China
    Of course I have not tried these yet, but I believe they should be a homerun. I'm sourcing brass nuts right now to go along with these.

    Also a seller with m8 x 1.25 x 50 mm studs with the same recessed allen head on the end.
    9.95 for 10pcs shipped. Arizona based ebay seller.
    50 mm is a tad on the long side usually but it's a good price.

      Make SURE you put Antiseize on ALL stainless threads going into aluminum!!!

        X2 on what ray said! On the corrosion table of metals that corrosively react, aluminium and stainless do not get along at all.

          I use metric exhaust flange studs from Auto Zone to convert the exhaust to studs. You can also go to most supply houses and get 35 MM set screws ( which I have on my 77 750). whats cool about the set screws is all it takes is an allen wrench to install them and you then can use an allen wrench to hold the stud and loosen the nuts when the pipes have to come off.

          I measured the depth on the hole in the collars and added what i would need for the washer and nut and put tape on the threads to set them into the head. Whatever you do, dont bottom them out and bust thru the bottom of the hole in the head.

            For sure. I used standard never seize when I built my 1100E in 2012. Mostly just a SS engine bolt kit, but any fasteners I have removed since then have not been stuck.
            On my recent build (850G) I bought a new jar of copper stuff as I'll be doing the exhaust studs. Word.

              Yeah Chuck I went to auto zone on my 1100 build in 2012 and got the m8 universal water pump studs. They worked fine, didn't have the recessed allen head but the end was shaped to a hex head for holding with a tiny wrench or pliars.
              They worked but rusted to hell very fast.
              Only SS from now on for me.

                I used regular steel metric exhaust studs like Chuck did,to avoid the rusting I used http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Stainless-Ste...item27e03822a8 these acorn nuts from my favorite Canadian SS supplier.

                  Was helping Frank Z. do fork seals once and one of the studs for the fork caps broke with little effort so we thought maybe it was already cracked. Anyway, we went to the parts store and got the studs and used them in the forks as well. Same thread and perfect fit. Saved days and days of waiting if he had to order a stud. Took all of 5 minutes to swap them out.

                    Did you have any luck with finding brass nuts? This seller is 10 minutes from me. Here's the link on eBay.

                    I do like the look of the SS acorn nuts that Greg posted too, and they'd cover the threads from the elements, but would lose the grip-ability the recessed 4mm hex head provides.

                    And yes, copper anti-seize all the way for anything exhaust related - I spray my car and truck intake manifold and head gaskets with copper gasket maker spray too, fills in minor imperfections and takes the heat without breaking down.

                      That is the guy I got my studs from. Nice quality and fast shipping.
                      I ended up buying the brass nuts from china on e bay. 20 for 7.49 shipped.

                          They are affordable, arrived fairly fast from China land.
                          One note, they could be a bit thicker. I would probably try a different nut next time.
