GS550e Exhaust System - where can I get replacements? (UK)

    Hi All

My GS550e (82/83) exhaust has a number of small holes in both the downpipes and the tailpipes. I've filled them with Gun Gum to see if they will pass the MOT but even if they do I'm going to be looking at getting them replaced relatively soon.

I would like to stick with the 4-2 setup but am struggling to find new complete system in the UK. Does anyone have any pointers?

    Thanks

    David

What I did with mine was I cut the exhaust pipes off and welded a sleeve on to accept a slip on muffler. You will have to pore through the catalogues at your local bike shop to find something that has a mounting bracket attached. I bought Mac slip-on mufflers that had a sliding bracket attached. The sleeve came from a local auto parts store as well as some of the other fittings. It will take a bit of McGuivering to put it all together but the result looks like it is brand new. To cover the weld and sleeve I found a separately mounted cover plate at a local motorcycle junkyard and had the mounting brackets spot welded on. The headers on your bike are likely double walled whereas any replacement ones would be single walled and would discolour rapidly.

New complete system? Not gonna happen.
Post a "Looking for OEM GS550 dual exhaust system or parts of" notice on whatever site you have in the UK.
MAC Performance still makes a 4>1 system, I put one on my 550T and was quite satisfied. Very nice tone, not too loud because it's a small engine.

If you get the MAC, go ahead and get the upgraded baffle and get some packing material. Mine sounded tinny and was too loud - compared to stock.

The good news is it passed the MOT so I've bought myself some time to sort it out. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep an eye out for OEM parts on eBay etc.

I have the same issue with my GS750, I have only been able to find 4 into 1 systems but would like to keep the appearance as close to standard as possible. I found a company in Stafford called OS Stainless who can make 4 into 2 stainless exhausts for all GS models. They look very good but I expect they are pricey. I have meaning to give them a call to see how much they cost, I am guessing £700-800! There website is OSMC.co.uk Take a look on there website they look amazing quality all handmade.
