2007 Yamaha 650 V-Star. (V-Twin)
Heres the story. (I must preface this with the fact my cousin, the bikes owner can barely turn a screwdriver, which is why he bought a brand new bike)
My cousin comes back from a ride and puts the bike back in the garage. Key is in off position.
He comes back a couple days later and tries to fire up the bike and go for a ride. Turns the key on and tries to start it, nothing. I get the call and go over with a voltage meter. Battery is dead, nothing in it. Usually there is somehting there, 1-2 volts something.
I take the batery cables off and put it on a charger to see if the battery is now toast. After charging for about a half hour, it go to hook up the cables and the starter starts to turn. Key is in off position. After fully charging the battery I could start the bike by touching the battery cables to the posts with the key turned on. No starter button needed.
Also it seems the starter is engaged to the flywheel all the time. when you put the bike in neutral it rolls fine, whenyou put it in first and engage the clutch, it won't roll. The clutch cable is fine and I can see it moving the arm its connected to.
The bike has had nothing done to it except 600 mile dealer service and a new battery, which I put in about a month ago and it ran and rode, fine right after.
Whats going on here??? Do I have a stuck solinoid? Any opinions appreciated.
Jim
