        I'm going with a TRASHED rectifier/regulator from something with a little backwoods engineering in it.

          It's someones idea of a diode bridge 'bodge' on a old voltage regulator.

          use it as wall art!

            It looks like an early (separate) rectifier (no regulator) from a '77-'79 model.

              Looks like someone made a R/R out of an R or at least attempted to.
              1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
              1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

                    Well this is what was attached to my 78 GS1000 as a rectifier. Not sure what it originally was but as it sits it was a make shift match, as when I connected the battery the positive wire coming from this alien beast caught fire, thank the heavens the fuses were in place....don't ask me why I thought it would be a good idea to put power to that raped version of a rectifier. So I suppose bobthebiker88 hit on the first notion of what in heavens name this part is but in the end BassCliff our poster of the year hit it on the nail head. Just let me know where you want me to send it!!
