Congratulations! You took the bull by the horns, or should I say the bike by the handlebars. If you would've waited for that control unit, it wouldn't be even in the mail until tomorrow at the earliest, so your way ahead in the game, and you're safer too, as when you let go of the switch it stops flashing, whereas that control unit just keeps on flashing until you press down on the switch. Sounds like you got alot of experience on GS1000's.sigpic

Scorpion. would be happy to share though unfortunately I had to do go to a non-cancelling L/R 3 pole toggle as when I last posted was so excited forgot to check turn signals w/lights on . The signal switch on bars works until the head light is turned on then no go, could be the butcher job PO did to wiring or something I missed. Am studying the wiring diagram but is a little confusing as the PO has all the wires at the head light bucket hacked to hell. will try putting these back per diagram or just clean them up and run the toggle as it is weather resistant and the mounting spot picked looks pretty good and seems user friendly IMO . However received an email from Travis Eckley telling how he fixed his. Am not clear on one detail so will correspond with Travis and decide to stay with what is working now or his method. At the moment its up in the air, one way or another it's going to be a home run. Will reply with more after further correspondence with Travis. If your still interested in details on the current fix with 3 way switch would be happy to reply.

Yeah its a strange one all right. I thought it was worked out and so excited forgot to try with the headlights on, must be a wire connection I missed that goes to ground or ? w/headlights on. After posting "fixed" kinda felt like I sh!t in my mess kit. No big deal though, as it will work with a three pole toggle, I have a pretty good looking holder for it that kinda looks like it belongs and found a user friendly mounting place. With wire loom, heat shrink, acrylic and what ever I'm thinking it to be just fine. Although am in touch with Travis Eckley and believe he may have a better workaround. All is not lost this suckers going to work one way or another and still be clean looking. Just too stubborn to not have it any other way and too cheap to pay for used electrical that would lead to circle jerk. Cant justify the price of a new unit if they were to be had. Last thought should have been taking pics from start, little late but taking now.

My offer to you still stands, but I believe your perseverence will pay off eventually, can't understad why turning on the headlights would open up that turn signal circuit. I would think something is tied to that circuit that shouldn't be, unless he wanted the flashers to have another use, such as
running lights like my GS1100E on the front, but the flashers still work otherwise. I could understand it being the other way, that is turning off the headlight disables your turn signals, just not the other way around.sigpic

Had my workaround hooked up to constant on left or right middle off switch and had a left and right blinker working "sure looked pretty lights laying on floor blinking" Now to finish running wires in harness mine not suzuki's and see what happens. Feels like been there done that, fingers still crossed. By the way how do I put my name on the bottom and a picture etc. may be wrong place to post this if so let me know as not so good with forums. turn signal control box GS1000
Scratched my head and chased my rear still confused and completly amazed, Trailer converter and a god awful mess of wiring hanging from side of bike and the headlight bucket. anyone who does wiring would die from laughter. The good news is The signals now work not sure why or how. Just got lucky. Took pictures and tried to write down everything done, but still somewhat confused. Yes it looks a pos at the moment. Will be keeping fingers crossed when cleaning it up and weatherproofing. Should give a chance to clean up some previous hacks and figure how or why this works. Oh checked head lights, brake lights etc. Trailer light converter runs completely separate of all other systems so hopeful won't be surprises later. Need to edit pictures W/Picassa some too bright to show detail. Once again thanks to one and all for support and generous offers. Will be asking lots more on other posts as there is lots of work left and this community sure has the knowledge and doesn't mind sharing. Members of The GSResource forums Rule.

But I would do this, as you put it all back together, I would periodically check it every so often so as to when and if it fails again you can focus on what you did last. Especially if you're splicing and taping wires or connecting to grounds, joining connectors etc. Something you unwraveled fixed it, a bad connection, floating ground, dirty contact, the gremlins are everywhere in a 33 year old motorcycle. I hope you find and fix the problem so you don't have to go through this again.

Well there's always more than one way to skin a cat. Once you have the bike for a bit and become more comfortable with the electrical you'll have to clean all that up. For now rid the snot out of it. Keep an eye out for a new wiring harness for you bike, on here or ebay or craigslist and just shove it in a box for when you're ready.Rob
