Anybody changed the headlight to a removable bulb one?

The low beam is out on my bike, so I only have high beam. Autozone doesn't seem to have a sealed beam light in the right size and according to the fiche, one from the dealer is $110.

Is there a way to swab out the housing for something that a removable bulb can mount in so it'd be easier to replace?

JC whitney sells lamp assemblies for the common 7" headlamps but your bike takes a smaller lamp so I'm not sure what's available in that size. You might want to measure the lamp and then start searching.

    To measure is to know.

        Is that a 5-3/4" or a 6-3/8"?

If you've got the goofy 6-3/8" headlight check out what I did for my 450:

The one I got from Candlepower is the right size but has an extra mounting tab on the back that needs to be cut or ground off. It is MUCH brighter than the old sealed beam.

Your Candlepower link doesn't work anymore. They might have gotten rid of that.

Is that the same basic thing?

Second, third and fourth on Candlepower. I've had mine for several years now and they are great. In a given size, the base reflector is all the same, the difference is the bulb. The Narva H4 Range Power 50 is a very bright bulb at 60/55W.

I have an EMGO 7" universal headlight on my GS450L. I didn't need to change the fork ear even though my new headlight is 5/8" bigger. The EMGO's are cheap but work great. $45 is what it costs for a complete unit.

This uses a removable H4 bulb.
