Spare CDI Ignitor on eBay - is $60 worth it?

Was looking on eBay, and saw an '82 CDI ignitor for my bike. Buy it now price is $49.95 plus $11.33 shipping. I don't need one now, but I like to have critical spares around. On the OEM parts fiche, the CDI is part #32900-34210 and costs $443. It is a rectangular metal box about the size of a portable hard drive on my bike, but on the parts fiche it looks more like an R/R-ish thing (newer model I guess).

The question is, should I look to get one of these as a spare? Not the $443 one, the one on eBay. This particular eBay offering is unimportant, you're welcome to buy it if you like, and mine hasn't failed in 29 years. But is it worth $60 to have a spare ignitor?

They come up in the For Sale forum from time to time for slightly less.

No such thing as CDI on these bikes. Just a pet peeve of mine hearing ignitors called CDI. Two different animals.

              Hi,

Sure, why not? I picked up a spare ignitor off Ebay a few years back for $10. I don't even know if it will work but for ten bucks, I took a chance.

              Thank you for your indulgence,

              BassCliff

Why dont you both grow up and stop being pedant old schoolmarms.
The term is in general usage in spite of its being wrong so get over yourselves. if you want to correct someone then do it in a PM and stop embarassing people.

Dude buy the unit better to have one and test it then to have one fail and be without a running bike.

Thanks for the advice guys, I got it off eBay. Now I'll just have to do some research to figure out how to tell if it works.

How about unplugging your existing ignitor and plugging in the new/used one?

Ignitor 32900-34210 is what the 81-83 650's use. It's a flatish module looking thing- I thought the 850's used a different ignitor shaped more like a cigarette pack. ask basscliff.
