    What is this?

    Hey everyone!

I need some help identifying an electrical component on my bike (1980 GS550). It's the little square part with a single 10A fuse in it with and a red wire coming off the hot side of the starter solenoid to the one side of the fuse.

It's been a couple of years since I worked on this part of the bike and unfortunately lost the cover for it so I don't know any details about what it does or how it's supposed to be hooked up. The fiche wasn't much help as the one I referenced has it listed as part 23 and no name (Costs $26.37 though). Any advice as to what it's referred to in the wiring diagrams and more importantly, how to properly hook it up, would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's got power in, a fuse, and a ground, but I can't recall what it was connected to. I tried upping a picture so hopefully it works.

    Thanks!

My manual calls it a "Power Source Terminal".

On my '80 GS 550E there is nothing connected to the fused side of it, so I'm currently wiring the power for the coil modification relay to it.

As Jay says, its a "power source terminal"

Think of it like a cigarette lighter plug in your car ... someplace to hook any accessory you want into.

The only thing to watch out for is that it is not switched by the key, so if you connect something to it and it uses power while the bike is off, it will drain the battery.

Yep, that's what it is, just an accessory terminal.

Later bikes (especially the larger ones) had it added to the fuse panel, making it the fifth fuse, but it's still ALWAYS LIVE, as bakalorz said.
