    gs1000e turn signal control

Removed the self canceling unit from my 1978 gs1000e. However the turn signal control switch doesn't stay in place when you signal right or left. You have to hold it with your thumb. Does anyone know of a turn signal control that can (plug and play) replace the original one and have the switch stay on when signaling?

I believe a 1978 GS1000(C) or the 1979 GS1000(N) LH control is what you are looking for. (non 'E' models)

If your old TSCU is bad I'd be interested in it.

I'm about to tear into my self centering unit to see how easy it is to make it well, not self center. I'll let you know results in case you want to go that route.

PM me your shipping address, otherwise mine is going the way of a dirty diaper.

cal_look_zero, let me know the shipping charges you incur, I'd gladly pay for them.

Too freakin easy. You have to completely pull apart the signal switch, but it's only one spring that self centers it.

There's 2 springs in there: One that sits in a hole in the nylon slider, and the other in the metal assembly. You need to remove the one in the metal portion. That little spring comes out of that notch in the signal assembly. Pull it out, clean the contacts while you're in there, put it all back together; minus that spring, and voila. No more self centering.

I recommend pulling it apart in a bag or over a table with edges. Those spring like to run away, and you need the one to stay in the nylon piece.

cal_look_zero, Mines at home already taken apart, so I can't look at it right now. do the switch contacts (or wires) look like they will be able to handle the current the two bulbs require?

The internals are very similar to the clutch/brake switch, and it's all 18ga wire. Can't speak for incan bulbs, but after rigging up a flasher relay to each side, my LED signals light up just fine.

Took out the spring in the control and all is well. Turn signals work fine. The only goofy thing is that the right signal flashes faster than the left. I rigged up a double flasher to take the place of the self canceling unit. Thanks for the spring removal advice. Inexpensive and easy. My kind of repair.

Recently put a 4 inch C-clamp on the bottom part of the self cancelling box and both left and right signals now work. Not sure if they self cancel.
