    Timing/points help please

    Hey guys,

Im sure your all sick of me asking for help but Im really bummed out not being able to ride in this beautiful weather.

I believe the problem was points/condensers. The bike started fine, revved fine, until I put it in gear and rode.. when accelerating it would bog down.

So I ordered new points/condensers and put them in... had some problems but I think I got them gapped right, and used a light to move the plates until it flickered out. I followed the write up on basscliffs site.

Well I took it out today quick. Its better than before, but definitely not right. It seemed to accelerate OK, but it just wasnt as quick as it was. I also got a little bit of a popping noise at time (didnt sound like backfire), not sure what this means.

Does anyone have any suggestions or points (no pun intended) for me? I am a noob so its definitely a possibility that I could have done something wrong, but I followed the instructions and think I got it....

Thanks and sorry for another thread

    Steve

Steve, did you time the 2nd set of points on 2-3 and rotate the small base plate as necessary?

      Did you fit new condensors?

Yes I used new condensers, and I believe I set the points correctly. I'm going to go through and redo it all tonight and hope for the best..

Wondering if the unit I got was bad. It was not a suzuki, just the random ones from Z1.. the suzuki ones were almost as much $$ as a damn dyna!

If im going to spend that much $ I may as well convert it to dyna right?

Is this all that I need or is there extra parts?

Z1 Enterprises specializes in quality Motorcycle parts for Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha Classic Japanese motorcycles from the 1970's and 1980's.

          Thanks

            Update please help me!!

Alright guys, so I was bored today and attempted this again. I got the points gapped perfectly, got the main breaker plate timed good where the light just flickers out.

Then when I go to do the half plate, I get NO light at all. If I take the black wire off of the points the light turns on, but when I connect it again I get nothing. I HAVE to be getting close here!

            PLEASE HELP!

Skubasteve!, can you snap me a picture of your point setup. I'd take a look a my 1000's point setup out in the garage, but it raining pretty hard.

what happens to the light on the second set of points when you open them; does it go on?

Inspect the insulators on the second set of points. the through bolt is probably shorted to ground.
