    Hi,

I saw quite a few of those with the part number "SH541" on the case, like the Kawasaki Prairie r/r units. I would use one of those on my bike. Like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kawasaki-Pra...item43aa9b672c

First, I would verify the outputs but it looks like a couple of positive outs, and two grounds, or a ground and a "sense" wire (7 wires total).

Here's a list of r/r units that are known to work on our bikes:

    Honda CBR1000RR 06-07 Shindengen SH678B 12V 35 Amp rating, 15.1 V
Honda CBR1000RR 08 Shindengen FH-008EB 12V FET 40 Amp rating (with wire tails and plugs)
    Honda CBR1000RR 08 Shindengen FH-014AA 12V FET 50 Amp rating
    Honda CBR1000RR 05? Shindengen SH775 12V Series 35 Amp rating, 14.0 - 15.0V
    Honda GL1000 79 Shindengen SH232-12 9.0 12V
    Honda GL1000, 1100,1200 80-87 Shindengen SH541C-12 12V xx Amp 14.4 V(about 1/8" wider & slight mod to fit GS)
Honda GL1100 Shindengen SH538-12 12V (8 Wire, double pos & neg, sense, holes 3mm further apart ream with a drill bit to fit GS)

    Honda Superdream Shindengen SH232-12 12V
    Honda VF750/1000 Shindengen SH541-12 12V xx Amp 14.4 V(about 1/8" wider & slight mod to fit GS)
Honda VT250FG/MC17 Shindengen SH538-12 12V (8 Wire, double pos & neg, sense, holes 3mm further apart ream with a drill bit to fit GS)
Honda XLV600V 89-90 Shindengen SH538A-12 12V (8 Wire, double pos & neg, sense, holes 3mm further apart ream with a drill bit to fit GS)
    Kawasaki Concours 1400GTR 08-09 Shindengen FH-012AB FET 50Amp rating 14.4V-15.0V

Kawasaki ZX10 2005 Shindengen FH-010BA 12V FET 50A rating 14.3V -15.1V (mounting holes 3 mm wider than GS, may need bracket)
    Yamaha FJR13 2007 Shindengen FH-012 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V
    Yamaha FZS10 2007 Shindengen FH-012 12V 50 Amps rating 14.5V

'maybe' the ones marked sh541e will work as well.
Im thinking he isn't going to be willing to send me a $50 unit to replace the $12 one he couldnt send, would be nice though.

He doesn't seem to list part numbers in the text and only sometimes has them in the pictures. I have, of course, seen your list and Matchless' more complete list as well.

Very strange! I had that R/R on my watch list and yesterday it said it had been sold for $20.
          Anyways try these;
          ebay items # 140631159308 or #350475490680

both 6 wire units; one seller confused about voltage (4.9 v ??), apparently he's trying to interpret Shindengen numbering scheme, but just ignore him.

No, but maybe He'll offer a little bit of a discount on it.

Yes, you must be careful when using the Ebay. You may find that you usually know more than the seller.

My list is just the blue highlighted units from Matchless' list. I did not include those that are for 6v systems, used with single or 3 phase alternators, or field winding controlled alternators. Many of the others will probably work but may have fitment issues. So I just stuck to the known good stuff.

Armed with more information you can now expand your search and find the right deal. Good luck.

Good news. He agreed to send this one instead.

Its a SH541E-12 and it has 8 wires. I hope it is compatible.

                  As it's a SH541(?), I'm thinking it's going to work.

Sure it will. Standard 8 wire Honda setup (IIRC, BC uses this one also). 2 red 12V out wires, 2 green ground wires, 3 yellow stator wires, 1 black sense wire.
I have a variant of that one and it works just dandy.

                      Most splendid.

Any idea what Im going to do with the extra positive and negative wires?

                        I suggest the following:
Red wire 1 - factory wiring harness
Red wire 2 - 20 Amp fused to battery 12+ terminal
Green wire 1 - original R/R ground point
Green wire 2 - to battery 12- terminal

Or you could just tie them together.

This is what I did: I put one ground wire on the negative battery terminal and the other on a common frame ground, where I have a couple of relays grounded. One 12v output goes into the normal harness connector and the other is connected directly to the positive battery post through a 15 amp inline fuse.

You could also splice the greens together and the reds together and use them as single wires.

                          Thank you for your indulgence,

It's generally best to avoid adding connections to the battery terminals as this is a prime area for corrosion. Another reason is that wires have to be disturbed for battery service/replacement if connected there. Use another ground location such as the starter relay mounting bolts.

Yea except most Suzuki GS starter relays are mounted to a rubber mounted battery box or electrical panel, and the only ground path is though the grommet bushings. Better to go direct to the battery or frame.
