What is the little switch on the rear of the left controls?

First off i am sorry if this has been asked and answered before but in my searching i could not find the answer.

I have a 1981 Suzuki GS 650 GL and noticed while i was cleaning it that on the back of my left controls there is a small dip switch, i turned it on and off or left and right (which ever) and could not see any changes. thank you for your help!

Not following what you mean by "dip" switch..pics??? Oval black plastic looking thing under the clutch lever or actually on the switch housing????

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

it forces you to pull in the clutch lever to complete the circuit to the starter.
