    Whose work is this?

    My PICAXE self-cancel / bar control retrofit inches forward.

    I reworked the bar control from a '79 GS-Something today, and I stole someone's .jpg along the line. It's of the bar control in pieces. Now I can't recall which thread I stole it from, so -- here it is:



    I'm wondering how the bullet connectors were removed from the plastic connector block. Does this photo look familiar to anyone?

    Look at the end of the block and youll see that the connectors go thru the plastic and theres a small square "tunnel" just above each terminal. Take a small paper clip or very small flat piece of metal and insert it in that tunnel. Theres a pop up tab on the connectors that clicks in and traps them in to the plug body...theres a tool made for that very purpose. I have one and will do a search for it and post a picture...stand by.

      This is the one i have..multiple styles all in one tool...And that looks like Dales picture if I remeber right.

          Pick the one that fits into the tunnel just above the connector you want to remove..push it in hard and pull put on the wire from the back of the plug at the same time. The round ones are for removing the round pins. Slip over the pin push in..pull the wire out.

            Chuck, that's a good price for one of the combination terminal tools!

            I use a Mac Tools TT96030 set plus a few other individuals because the separate tools seem handier over time but the higher cost means that one needs to have more frequent need.



            Didn't notice if anyone mentioned but round, tapered tools such as "O" ring picks require caution because the larger diameter of the tool back from the tip will sometimes damage the plastic socket body when the pick is forced in far enough to reach a release tab.

            It is also well to take care not to over bend the lock tab both during removal and re-installation as the tabs will fatigue and break off. Not a big deal if one has a supply but a definite if not.

            Pack the socket with some waterproof grease or other sealant or coat with an anti-corrosion such as LPS or Fluid Film is always good practice.

              Norm...If you take the plugs apart and clean the connectors it stands to reason that dielectric grease will be applied to halt future corrosion. A small safety pin will pull the release tabs back up for reinstallation. Like i said, if they are greased it should be a good long time till they will ever need recleaned. Do the full monty is my motto.

                Robert, It's mine. If I recall right, I straightened a small cotter pin and used it to depress the locking tab and allow the terminal to be removed. Use could use a safety pin or a paper clip to do the same thing.
