Normk, if you find a way to do it with relays and retain the function of the manual canceling switch, let me know. I could care less about self canceling. The switch setup itself is a very intuitive layout and I would like to put it back in some day. I do not like the detente type switches. I took the switch apart last night. I may do it again today so I can see better. I guess I could manually jump the wires to confirm if it's the switch or not. For some reason I couldn't get the switch test to work last night. Only the manual cancel would show up on the multi meter. I did find a bad ground on the right front blinker bulb socket. I cleaned that up but no dice. This last option is interesting, but according to the drawings there is actually still one flasher with three relays. Where would I get the relays, at an auto parts store or mouser? Has anyone made this system work? If so any pointers before I get my hands dirty? I would love a simpler solution that can be repaired in the future without overly expensive out of production parts. I have heard mention of reverse engineering the TSCU on the site. How is that going? I would be willing to pitch in as far as soldering some stuff up or getting circuit boards prefabbed if the schematics have been figured out. Hell maybe I'll break mine open and have a look around if I get this other method to work.Last edited by Guest; 05-11-2012, 08:43 AM.

I think you found the wrong schematic. Unless I'm having a senior moment, I believe the '78/'79 850G had the same first generation TSCU as the GS1000E. There is the just the TSCU and it's epoxy sealed. The stock Suzuki flasher looked like a relay, for mounting on the hook, but is a simple two prong flasher like you have. I'm still confused, I would have done this from my research a long time ago, but unless I'm really addled, I thought the self cancel switch was attached to ground, and I couldn't find a relay that would switch with a ground sense wire. The cancel switch grounds a wire when depressed.
Or do I have what you are asking about a bit jumbled up in my head?
In my drawing I use a normally closed relay that has power connected to one side of the pull down coil. If you were to depress the cancel switch, you would be connecting the other side of the coil to ground, therefore opening the N.C. switch.

OldVet66, The two other relays shown in my drawing are wired to be self latching. When you energize them by pushing the turn signal lever to the right or left, voltage is fed back to the relay's pull down coil through one set of the double pole contacts, keeping the coil energized until power is removed.
The N.C. relay is used to remove the power, unlatching the coil.
Is the operation clearer now?

Strange enough, I just figured it out that it would have to latch itself. I was busy yesterday and had a sinus migraine. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking, "WHAT WAS I THINKING" and deleted the last post. Thanks for getting back to me. That would make cancel almost instantaneous. Getting old, having a hard time keeping this stuff in my head. I have not read the entire thread --- but I too have the same problem with my 1981 GS 850G ... left is perfect... right is almost never working and it does from time to time... When it is not I hear a buzzing in the relay (flasher)... I went to my local Suzuki place OEM about $55. He had no aftermarket... He then said he would let me have it for $33 as he probably "will never sell it." Ordered by someone who never picked it up years earlier... Short of all of this is I initially assumed it was the relay (simple fix) and it was not.
I now believe it is a faulty self cancelling controller (which is pricey) --- so I am having the guys that do my work "bypass it all together." Good luck

If yours is a '81 GS850G, your in luck!
That is a second generation Turn Signal Control Unit, not as rare and much more reliable than the 1st Generation ones, you can pick them up on the cheap on E-bay, same ones used on the GS1000 80 on, GS1100's.
I picked one up within the last two weeks for $3.99. It works great!
Sure you want to modify it? As far as I know there is no self cancelling controller, it's just the TSCU turn signal control unit. Have no idea what the buzzing your hearing is.
