    1980 GS1000 Starter clutch

Hey guys iv been lurking the forums for a while and need some advice.
I have a 1980 gs 1000 Tuesday it quit on me check the plugs they were fouled decided to check my oil and had gas(guess i forgot to turn of the petcock) so changed plugs and oil still no spark i drained my batt trying so i left it on the charger checked comression and had none gave it a running start and it turned over but didnt fire after doing this four or five times drained my batt so back to the charger tried last night got it up to about ten mph oped the clutch and it started but i can only get2 or 3 starts out of it before have to push it. I think it is the starter clutch but also think i have a bad batt and possible some thing worng with the charging system. Thanks in advance for your response.

hi and welcome, where are you from?
try using jump leads on it and see if it starts off the starter. if it does it sounds like your battery is toast. get a new one then before you do any riding check the charging system is working ok

It only has no compression when the starter clutch fails to engage because its not cranking the enginge it does start and i just have to push it.

Yeah, do this, but remember don't jump from running vehicle (sometimes too much voltage). Even if it won't fire, it will/should crank so you can move on to other tests.
