Unfortunately just doing that ground wire won't fix this guys issue or others. All connection to the R/R need to be dealt with including the grounding which your recommendation is only part. .

I'm sure it indicates that other wiring is at fault. I just suggested it as it is so simple and, if Scudder gets results, so much the better

Big T, I don't disagree about the ground wire as I already stated and reaffirmed in my previous post. However, it has been my experience that there are just as many if not more issues that need resolving than just that ground. For example with old style fuse boxes that have the harness wires attached with crimps, on the old GS1000's the crimps commonly have enough corrosion that they heat up melting the plastic and causing shorts. This happened to Salty Monk at one of the GSR rallys when his ignition would not go off even though his ignition key was in the off position !

So when you say you restored to a fully charging condition, I have to question if you measured the voltage drops as per the Revised Phase A stator pages? In effect you are claiming that the single ground wire was the only issue with the entire charging system? That I doubt.

I have restored three different system from not being able to get above 13V at 5000 to full charging and voltage drops less than 0.2V on both polarities with only about 1-2 hours of cleanup on the harness and grounds (i.e. NO NEW PARTS). It generally takes more than just a ground wire and without measuring the voltages at 5000 RPM you don't really know how much of the problem you fixed.

My standard for care for GS charging is passing the test below. Did you perform this test after adding a ground wire?

Posplayr... clearly you are an expert at electrical issues and probably all things gs related. I am not. I'm just an old (not too...51) guy trying to figure stuff out. I am on the site because I don't know Jack about electrical issues. I am reading, watching, and testing, when I'm not asking questions, to try and speed up the learning curve. I'm sure there is a blur or terms , problems , measurements and personalities that you are experiencing in this little foray into GS charging. You probably won't ever really figure it out how the charging system works, but you will probably be able to get it to charge. I will commend you on being able to take the various measurements that you have done so far. That was done well despite a couple of missteps.
I will take the bold highlighted sentence above at face value and wish you luck.
