A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Went to ride my 78 GS1000 tonight, hit the starter button, and the rectifier just clicks once, and nothing happens. Does not seem to be passing power. All other electricals work. No power at the solenoid. WAAAAAA:confused:?????????????????

Bridge the solenoid and see if that turn her over. I think possibly your in need of a starter solenoid

I don't think a rectifier can't stop it from turning over. Are you sure the noise is from the R/R ?

You for sure have power at one side of solenoid, if it not's reaching the other side we can't blame the R/R

The rectifier is solid state. It has no moving parts to go click.

The solenoid will click if the battery is too weak to close the contacts. If you bridged the two large nuts on solenoid and got nothing, the battery is just about dead, otherwise you would get some sparks and the starter would turn assuming the starter hasn't gone bad. The main ground to the motor might cause the same thing if it was bad.

Isn't the rectifier mounted on the plate where the solenoid is? The click is felt through the mounting but it's not the rectifier. Break out your meter and start measuring voltage starting at the battery then follow the path of current until you find the point where voltage is insufficient to power the starter. Of course, make sure all your connections are clean and tight, and your battery charged and load tested.

It's not an R/R, he has an early bike with a separate regulator and rectifier. Which don't click, and have nothing to do with starting.

A Click when pressing the starter button is most commonly a symptom of a flat battery. It's the starter solenoid closing but the battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the motor. Try jumping it from a good battery. I if you use another vehicle to jump it don't do it with the engine running, that can cause charge system problems.....

Or you could do it the right way and invest $20 at wally world for a float charger. I have one for every toy with a battery including my little girls power wheel.

This is one of those where the original poster never come's back to tell us what came of his issue. He was sure it was the regulator so he's probably got one on the way...

Battery has 250 cold cranking amps. Power gets to relay, and that's it. One click when you push the button. Nothing when you cross the relay posts. 12 volts at the relay positive. HELP
