ThrottleBack
Or you could do it the right way and invest $20 at wally world for a float charger. I have one for every toy with a battery including my little girls power wheel.

Battery has 250 cold cranking amps. Power gets to relay, and that's it. One click when you push the button. Nothing when you cross the relay posts. 12 volts at the relay positive. HELP

The posts are the large connectors on the starter relay/solenoid (same thing, different name). If you cross them, at any time (I use pliers, but a screwdriver works as well), and the starter does not rotate then you need to investigate your starter. When you jump those two large posts, you are sending high current 12V DC right to the starter. Therefore, there is an issue in the starter itself. "Usually" it is the brushes/commutator area, but it could also be frozen bearings. Only removal and disassembly will tell.

If you have a battery cable going from the battery to the starter solenoid with the other large cable coming from the solenoid and connected to the starter, plus you have a new solenoid and rebuilt starter and the solenoid clicks when you depress the starter button, then you need to take your DVOM (vom) and measure the voltages at battery, starter solenoid and starter post to determine what isn't receiving proper voltage 'while the starter button is being depressed'.

I'd bet your battery voltage or cable is bad...
test with digital voltmeter on the wire on the solenoid coming in.
i bet it reads 12+ volts but when you press the start button it goes to 7 or 8...

Have you checked your battery cables for hidden corrosion where the wires are crimped to the terminal rings. Your ground runs from the battery negative to a bolt on the transmission. Your starter motor is bolted to the transmission. That is the negative side of that circuit. If there is serious corrosion and broken wire strands hidden in one of the cable terminals, the starter will not spin. I would also check the positive terminals from the battery to the solenoid. If it's not wiring or battery, you need to check the starter. Rebuilt, Where do you get a rebuilt starter for a GS? I am absolutely sure no one has ever bought a bad rebuilt starter.Last edited by OldVet66; 06-05-2013, 10:50 PM.http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ine=1440711157'78 GS1000E, Dyna-S ignition, Dyna Green Coils, K&N pods, Delkevic SS 4-1 exhaust, Dynojet Stage 3 jet kit, Russell SS Brake Lines, Progressive suspension, Compu-Fire series Regulator 55402 and Advmonster cree LED headlight conversion.

Problem solved!!! My rebuilt starter was powder coated so thick it would not ground. Five minutes and it was ready to go. Thanks to all!
