r c eng. electric ingintion

hi all got a few prom with my gs1000e and wondered if any of you guys could help. right the problem is that ive got a r c eng electric ingintion and anit got a clue how to wire it into the electric box


what ive got is 3 wires from the ingintion unit and a 4 wire block connecter on the electric box am i missing something?

Since you have a ignitor box I'm guessing you have an 80.My 78 came with:

A Martek.It's a stand alone unit that wires directly to the coils and a switched power source. her's how mine is attached http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=198611.

well thats just confused me even more lol i brought the r c electric ingntion a few days back and it came with the big black box so i just asummed that it connected to that (ive taken the old one off and fitted the bigger one) the big block conector gos where it should but the 4 wire one that would conect to the org ingintion aint got nothing to plug to if what your say is right and ive got to wire it in elesewhere. sooooo what wires go where? ive got 3 wires a blue and white a black and white (these are the same lenght) and a longer yellow and white

You're attempting to connect it up to the turn signal control unit. I don't think that's going to work.

This is an educated guess, white goes to coil 1-4, black goes to coil 2-3 and the blue wire is switched +12v. The Dyna-S uses black, white and red. That black box is your turn signal control module with automatic canceling (they all fail). I'm guessing your bike is a '78 or '79? What is confusing me is the longer white wire, because the white and black wire from the original breaker points are in the same location under the seat in the front of the battery. If that is the case maybe white is power and black and blue are coil wires. Do yourself a favor and get a Dyna-S ignition if you can't find anyone with a wiring diagram. There is a R.C. Engineering in California that had drag bikes back in the day. I'll call and see if it is one of their modules when they open in about three hours.

I've never seen one of those ignitions the entire time I have been in this site. It is a three wire unit so two wires are coils and the remaining is power. R.C. Engineering won't be opened for several more hours. I'll try to get the wiring color code if they are the ones that made it. The harness goes through the three clips under the edge of the transmission, crosses behind the transmission to the other side and up to a rubber boot covering wiring in the front of the battery box.

I called R.C. Engineering. They don't have any of the old timers left there, but they said they would try to find out about the ignition and call me back. The more I think about it, I think the wires that are the same length, Black and Blue go to the coils and the longer wire (White or Yellow?) must be the 12v switched power wire. I have several more leads to follow so I will update if I get an answer.

R. C. Engineering called back and sent me to Lee Cycle who sent me to APE who said Jay would know. I sent him an Email "I'm trying to track down the color code for the wiring on a R. C. Eng ignition module on a '78 GS1000E for a forum member in England. R. C. Engineering sent me to Lee Cycle who sent me here to ask Jay, who would probably know the answer. The module is similar to the Martek 440 module except it is orange. It is a three wire unit with a black and a blue wire the same length, and a white (or yellow) wire about nine inches longer. I am assuming the black goes to coil 1-4, blue to 2-3 and the white or yellow wire goes to switched 12V, but you know how assumptions go. Any help would be appreciated." I'm waiting for a reply so hang in there.

This has been an interesting search. R.C. Engineering is supposed to be sending Lee Cycle their old drag bike for restoration. I think they are using your ignition. Check it out while I'm waiting to hear from Jay at APE. http://www.rceng.com/history.aspx

12v. to a coil lead=popped module.
hell it may be damaged already....old stuff.

This is what I got back from Jay. "Sorry I don't know. The Dyna S made all of the others obsolete. If you are on the sohc forums you might try and PM Russ Jr. If he doesn't know he could ask SR." Seems like a full circle. You want to go any further? I have an idea Russ Sr. is the only one with the answer. My experience with the Dyna-S tells me the adjustable modules are superior to the fixed modules (Martek440, R.C. Eng). I have not had one yet that didn't have to have 2-3 adjusted a bit to dial it in correctly. I think my guess for wiring is most likely correct. The worst you might do there is to switch the module leads if they were backward. The longer lead has to be switched power and black and blue the coil leads. It just fits the way the wires are laid out.

soooo no joy there then right how do i wire these in to the coils and how do i wire in the long yellow wire as i cant see/aint got a clue where /how they go
