my gs started blowing main fuses 300km after doing valve clearances but only at a certain rpm.Turned out to be the feed wire to the horn was making intermittent contact with the frame when vibrating at certain rpms.was bloody frustrating to find the fault and was cured by simply rotating horn in its rubber mount.not saying its what your problem is but look at all accessories as well as they are fed power all the time and the switch closes the return loop from the accessory

Thanks, Dale. You got it done before I saw his query.
I have used the early 1980's 400/450 series of Hondas as source. They are easy to find, not expensive, and usually in good condition.Bertrand Russell: 'Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education.'

Perhaps your bike is one of the 78 or 79 750s that has only one fuse.

My GS850 would intermittently blow the main fuse when revved. After a period of time it would also blow the blinker\brake and headlight fuse. Turned out the charging voltage was over 16 volts. I got a new regulator but it is on my winter project list so I am not 100% sure that is the fix...sigpic
