    Spark plug caps

So the previous owner before me (79 GS425) must've done something funny with the spark plug wires ... the spark plug wire leading to the right spark plug fits only with the spark plug cap on and the wire leading to the left spark plug only fits with the spark plug cap off. As I've mentioned in another thread, I am having an issue with a small amount of white smoke coming from my left exhaust. Is this problematic? As far as I know, the wires on both sides are good (no cracks and I see no sparks)

    Thanks!

One is probably a resistor style cap and the other isnt?? As for the smoke..if its firing and all the pipes are getting hot its one of two things. Rings or valve stem seals.

Does the smoke smell like oil or like gasoline?

      When does it smoke?

Smoke smells like oil, I think. Spark plug was black -- but not wet. Would it be problematic to have one resistor type cap and one non-resistor type cap?
