What's so confusing? put your imaginary 'leads' on the points I described in that drawing. That's exactly how you will be connecting the 'real' leads up to your bike.

      Questions?

Rusty, this is the reason I allway just focus on quick test until a direction can be found. The average joe coming to Gsr and electrical problems just has a difficult time with following the few or revised stator pages.

In addition it has been well stablished that the only stator test that is even close to being conclusive is the leg to front stator tests. The rest are only conclusive if they fail. If they pass it does not mean much.

This particular poster has some very strange quick test results and a separate r and r. I see no reason to leave that old pair of r's on the bike and so no point to test it with until it is replaced.

Jim, rather than replacing both units at once, I'm trying to show him how to test the stator.
He has a R/R that is known good and will fit so that's one portion out of the way. BUT, if he can't make sense of how that R/R should be connected to a stator that has five wires then I will try and make him understand as best as I can.

We got him settled down, he knows what we've asked and I've relinked him to the quick test in your signature.

Got to get him comfortable with what he doesn't understand first.

Oh, and to me, measuring the stators output 'is' a quick test.

Label the pairs 1...2...3...4...5 as the stators wiring harness has five wires.

              Remember?

For example... A has two wires connected up to it. B has two wires connected up to it and C has only one. The two wires coming off A are electrically connected. (treated as a single wire) B....

It seems complicated, but it's not. If you abandoned a yellow and a white/blue like I said it would be (any combination you start with) example: 1 White/Blue to Green/White, 2 Green/white to Yellow, 3 Yellow to white/Blue.

I used a yamaha roadstar warrior r/r, cheaper than yamaha r1 for the same part.
Artic cat use the same on 4 wheelers or snowmobile.
You can buy kit here, just found it when searching for connectors.
