are there any electronic tachs for '83 GS1100e?

I sheared off the gear on my ex cam due to the old non-OEM VC gskt(bought that way), and I wanna go electronic if possible. Anyone know of a good drop in replacement that is a decent match to the Speedo? Not wanting to patch in one, as has been demonstrated here on GSR if I can just bolt one in...

there is no such tach's available.
that's why i suggested just replacing the exhaust cam.

Someone recently changes out the guts from a ESD electronic tach to convert over a mechanical to electronic. He needed to change out the gauge face.

I have a good exhaust cam if you go that route.
You can buy an aftermarket tach and mount it to your handlebars. You'll need one designed for the wasted spark system these bikes use.

Trailtech Vapor. The kit number with the Silver head unit is 75-704 and the kit number with the Black head unit is 752-704. These kits will come with all of the correct sensors for your application.

best bet is gauge replacement. the vapor has been mentioned, my 1100 es wears gauges from a 93 gsxr600, mech speedo, electronic tach, a little fiddling with mounting and wiring, but not too much trouble.

I don't know much about the 1100's, but I did an mechanical to electronic tach conversion on my '81 750E, thread is here: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ach-conversion

It was not exactly a drop-in replacement, but it wasn't terribly involved either. The way I did it, it can easily go back to stock in the future. The reason I didn't get new cam was because mine had extremely few miles on it.

I believe there are a few years where the E models had mechanical tachs and the ES models had electronic tachs. I would check against the parts fiche. If that's the case with yours, the conversion may be somewhat easier. (Or you may be able to just swap over the whole dash.)
