regulator rectifier gets hot 1979 gs1000

I just installed an aftermarket RR unit and the unit gets quite warm as do the stator wires. The wires are just warm, the RR is too hot the touch for very long. Also it appears that one leg of the stator has low voltage. Could the weak stator be the problem?

From my experience, if the R/R is getting real hot I would suspect you have some bad connections. I bought a Electrosport R/R once that immediately overheated (within 1 minute) just with the bike idling. I was testing a SERIES R/R and a MOSFET and so the Electrosport was just plugged in. It turned out to be loose crimps. Nice and shiney from the factory but inadequately crimped; the wires would pull out.

This is obviously a SHUNT R/R you bought. Maybe a blessing in disguise; get an SH-775 it won't do that.
