Newbie here, please help. Wiring harness question
I just got my first bike. Besides dirt bikes growing up. I got a 1981 GS1100. The motor is not the original one from the bike. The previous owner connected all the rest of the wiring to my knowledge. I have been searching images and youtube videos to try and see if I could figure this out. I came across one video of a guy building a rat bike and his bike was running and this harness was just hung up on something and not connected. Im not necessarily trying to build a rat rod bike so I would like to know where it belongs or what my issue is. On the shifter and starter side of the motor there is 2 harnesses that come out of the rear end of the motor. I believe one of the harnesses goes to alternator etc. The one im questioning has 6 to 8 wires combined to one connector. Does anyone know what im talking about? Also what its for? I see no plugs for it to go into at all. Thanks

Welcome aboard. I 'm wondering if you have an 83 motor(welded crank). The 8 wire harness sounds like the shift indicator.
the way you tell is compare the wire colors in the factory harness schematic to that of your connector. Tdkes a little effort but it is not rocket science .Last edited by posplayr; 07-13-2016, 10:56 PM.

Get a photobucket account, add some photos of the plugs in question, then link the IMG code into your posts here and the photos will show up in high resolution. Best use a real camera, not a phone. Do that and I'm sure a number of guys can offer advice. Also, download a copy of the factory Suzuki service manual from basscliff's website if you haven't already got one. That will help you trace connectors to function as well.Ed

Yep, that is the connector for all the shifter position indicator lights.
Usually gets routed up the frame rail behind the engine, then up and over, toward the front. It's matching connector is likely under the tank. The separate blue wire is for the neutral light.
