    bonding aluminium

not sure if this is in the right section but here goes.........

has anyone got a solution to bonding 2 pieces of ali together permanantly?
has to be heat and oil proof and gauranteed leak proof and permanent.
welding is not an option so im thinking along the lines of epoxy resin or liquid metal

Is this for a load bearing part or parts?

Well anyway years ago GM came out with a panel patching system that used and epoxy and a tool to make a recess in the panel to be patched.

They showed the results of a hammer being used to try and pop the patch out. The hammer tore through the patch but the glued joint remained intact. damned inpressive.

3M makes a product I am sure others do as well.

Lord Fusor has to make something that will fit the bill.

i know you said no to welding but how about brazing i've ran across this video a while back when fixing my wheels. not sure how well it will bind two pieces together though. what kinda stress is this going to experience?

its totally non load bearing, just needs to be strong, heat and oil resistant

Can you use Durafix on it? If you can it meets your criteria and although you only get a short length for your money it actually works out ok pricewise.

HTS 2000. Nothing else besides true aluminum welding beats it. And I dont know of any other method, epoxy or everything else, that will stand up the test.

I found that a previous owner had used the wrong bolt length on a bolt that holds the camshaft bearing(?) to the head. It had cracked the bottom of the bolt hole out, and strangely nothing else. SO I went in with some Quiksteel, purchased at Wal-mart, and scrubbed the outside of the head down with some degreaser in that area, applied the Quiksteel, and now it doesn't leak any oil from that point. And its hard to notice unless you look close, the color of the Quiksteel matches Aluminium.

Devcon Aluminum Fill. I've used it in the exhaust ports of a 2 stroke V-6 Mercury outboard race engine with no problems at all.

I'll second the Devcon, tough stuff.
