which year side covers fit which bikes? '79 gs850

I lost the left side cover from my '79 gs850. looking to buy a replacement and i've seen covers from different years for sale online.

can anyone advise which year(s) side covers will fit on a '79 850?

I would have to check a cross-reference (can't do that while at work), but I think the '79-'81 are the same.

The badges are different, but the covers are the same.

That's good news, thanks. If you have time later on I'd love to get confirmation on this. Thank you so much for the quick response - I can see where you got the superstar status

I don't care that much about the badges, just want a functional cover protect the fuse box and make it look decent. (i mean, in a perfect world the damn thing wouldn't have fallen off and everything would be color coordinated and have the right model number, but hey.)

Steve is correct, 79-81 Gs850G and 1000G's use the same cover. that have differing variants of colors/stripes/emblems; but use the same basic cover.

hmm. one item i'm looking at on ebay is labeled GS850L http://bit.ly/ovXcB1 I don't think my bike even has a letter on its badge, so i'm not sure what it is...

          What would you advise?

'L' side covers are not what you you are looking for.

the ones you need look like these... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuk...item19c74f58e4

'82 and up covers are different as are the ones used on the "Ladies models"

Have you looked in the parts for sale section of this site?

Search isn't working for me currently - some error message about memory. Will keep trying that though intermittently. I also posted in the wanted parts forum, so maybe something will come up there.

Thanks for all the info and help! Hoping i can get this bad boy up to par - just found out that the shocks are blown so that's a few hundred more into it right out the starting gate. but i'm really excited. it's my first bike and in pretty good shape overall i think.

hahaha i saw those the other day, with the awful split port induction 24V badges stuck on them.

how do the badges attach? could i get those off easily, you think? if they'll fit my bike they're a steal at $30...

Most original side cover emblems are retained with speed nuts over the emblems post. those emblems appear to be glued in place. if you are careful they should remove fairly easily.

hopefully they didn't use silicone adhesive, bad juju...
