Sell as a project or part out
Which one would yield the most money? Last week, on my way home from work, my bike gave out on me and I feel like it's something in the engine. I don't want to spend the time or money on yanking the engine out to try to fix something that might be wrong, so I'm stuck between parting it out or letting someone else try to figure it out. Apart from whatever just happened, everything else is in good shape.Tags: None

Maybe you should ACTUALLY TELL US what just happened and show some pics. That may help someone make a more informed decision or response.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
1978 GS 1000 E, 1979 GS 1000 S, 1973 Yamaha TX 750, 1977 Kawasaki KZ 650B1, 1975 Honda GL1000 Goldwing, 1983 CB 650SC Nighthawk, 1972 Honda CB 350K4, 74 Honda CB550
NEVER SNEAK UP ON A SLEEPING DOG..NOT EVEN YOUR OWN.
I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Hard to tell exactly what happened. Started off missing and rattling then progressively got worse until I heard a loud bang and it died. Now it'll start, but the whole bike shakes more than it used it.

There are several members around, maybe one of them might be willing to come take a look, I would but have so much going on it would be a long while. Could be several things, at least try to figure it out before you make up your mind. terrylee

Well your first post on the subject left a lot of info out......
Actually it gave no info really....
left me scratching my head on what the problems might be...

sell it or try to
if not part it out
either way your first post was vague to even formulate that much...
whatever...

Part it. Doesn't look worth saving. A lot of work. Not much money. Exhaust has some value. Carbs. Bike looks pretty rough but you never know what someone might need. There are quite a few 450 aficionados around here so you might get luck.Ed
To measure is to know.

i have a guy who seems to like the 450's and has a few of them.
he may be interested in yours for parts....just depends on the price.
just be aware the value will be low.
if you part it out you may make a few extra bucks at the expense of turning wrenches and running to the post office over and over again.
your call really.
6 of one...half dozen of the other.

Parting it out would probably get you the most dough.(maybe $5-600, tops) However, that'd involve you tearing it to bits, and since you'd be doing that anyway, have you considered buying a motor.

It's far from being in good shape. Probably easiest and quickest to sell it for scrap value, or barring that, part it and try to make a few hundred off of what's left.

Hey Mike..not an attitude..its a POINT!!! Guys come on and they make then very same post like you did without any info and ask for an opinion..I say buy the happy meal. Other than that, if you had made a half azzed attempt at a description of the problem, I wouldnt have responded the way I did.
Oh and the part about "not help me fix my bike"...well if perspective project buyer doesn't at least have a clue as "to what happened" how are they to make a decision if they want the entire bike or not??? See our points now?????Last edited by chuck hahn; 08-22-2013, 09:48 AM.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
