    Questions from a new member

    Hello all

I have a 1981 GS650G, and like many of you here, have had charging problems out the wazoo. Over the past several years I have replaced my regulator twice; it has just died again. Electrosport has a nice diode trouble-shooting pdf, and it disclosed that the bottom 3 diodes were shot. My Stator checks out ok, and I ordered a new regulator, but just my luck they are back-ordered for 3 weeks.

So as I understand it, The electrosport regulator is supposed to "solve" the problems with this charging system. Am I to understand that the aftermarket replacements I used before simply replicated the problem with the OEM regulator?

I have been reading the wiring diagram in the meanwhile - can anyone explain to me the logic behind sending 2/3 of the alt output to the regulator, and the last 1/3 sent through the light switch first?

Would it make sense to ~instead~ run all three through the regulator, and then power the light circuit with an alternate run of wire?

Just leaving work so no time to explain....do a "search" on this and you'll
get your answer. Short answer is yes you can run all three wires of the
    stator to the R/R...and should!!!

and using the electrosport R&R is no guarantee that it wont happen again.

Yeah, I second all of the above, as I just installed a new RR the other day. All three straight in. By the way, motorcyclesuperstore.com just got in a bunch of the electrosport regulators, according to the guy on the phone. I only had to wait about a week for mine.

Replace it with a honda regulator

Search for Honda Regulator Mod and read all about it. I would not spend 120 dollars for a regulator, that is a rip off considering what is inside these things.
