    Just installed Shindengen SH232

I installed a regulator/rectifier from a 1978 Honda CB400. All seemed ok for a short time. Now, if the sense wire is hooked up, I blow a main fuse during starting. The odd thing is it doesn't happen all the time. I disconnected the sense wire from switched 12V and it doesn't ever blow the fuse. Sure wish I had a schematic of this regulator! Is the sense wire just a control wire to the base of a pass transistor? Any info will help.

hmmm biasing... dunno. but I did stay at a holiday inn last night. Ok,

Here's my idea: since you may find it's just a black box, increase the fuse a little and see what happens (10-20%?). Would you benefit from current limiting the output to the battery here? or is it just possibly a higher wattage regulator?

Had a tm1002c ? regulator installed one time and it blew a 15a amp fuse when i turned on the key, went to a shindengen r/r no problems after that.
It could be a bad regulator how did you wire it up?

Well.... I found that the SH232 is defective. It seems to work ok in the rectifier department but the regulator is toast. I switched back to the original Suzi regulator and all is well (for now). I did find a "hot" connector on the wht/blu wire when I originally replaced the regulator with the SH232. Just for reference, the hot spot was the crimp at the wire. I soldered all the connections. I also added dielectric grease to all the connectors. I added a ground wire from the battery to the bolt that holds the bracket for the fuse block. Everything seems very stable at the moment. This would be a great bike if it wasn't for the electrics. I guess MG owners say the same thing about Lucas.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I would stil recommend the honda mod as long as the RR is good to begin with. They do work better on the Suzukis, providing more output at idle than OEM

These bikes are 20+ years old and they don't live in the best environment plus the wire size wasn't over kill to begin with...

Look for another shindengen sh-232 or others to put on they work well mine is a ROCK stable 14.7v.
