Shorts shorts shorts!!!!!! 1983 GS1100 ESD

:? First I found a plug melted, a big one over the battery its where all the electricals seem to meet in a rubber boot, so I figure a short, had to cut it from each side and soder the connections, then I find that the stator and RR are bad so Ive ordered the parts from electro sports also my idiot lights for my brakes and head lights keep randomly flashing on and off, and it burns out my head light every couple of weeks, do I have grounding problems? Im in the midst of checking the grounds, and connections EVERYWHERE ](*,) and hoping that will solve it, any hints or advise would be grand.

I don't know if I can help you but,I needed some four-way connecters(both male and female)because my r/r melted the connecter also.I found a universal four-way with leads at my local ford dealership for $4.I hope it helps you.

        Working out the problems

I ordered a shop manual from haynes, and started tearing her down, Im also looking at a bundle of wires that go to the lights and checking them for broken or frayed spots, is it possible when it burnt the big plug it cooked the fuse box? I know it toasted the dash lights , thankfully those buggers are cheap lol. Also I started preparing gasket surfaces.

not a ford part must have been an aftermarket part ? how about a flat 4 universal trailer connector?

over voltage condition or head light loose and bouncing around.

                  Im not sure myself

its od but the head light does fine for a week or two and then just pops or it wont go dim funny thing is half the time the elements look fine, could the fact the staor and RR were going bad could that have been my head light and idiot light problem? not enough voltage or could the rr have been leting to much voltage?

Can I use vibration conectors instead of a plug

so if I install new headlight and dash bulbs now with the new stator and RR I should be ok right?

well you need to check ALL the wiring and charging system first. then if all is wired correctly and all connections are good with no excessive resistance, the grounds are clean and tight no shorts and it is charging correctly, then yes.
                          clean clean clean.

The headlight has a ring where the bulb fits in and mine was loose hence the shorting out. Could be a fault with the right hand handle bar switch?
Mines also had a major short in its life and had the Honda reg/rec conversion done. Cooked the tempurature gauge, fuse box, headlight and serveral rubber cover when it went. Still have a tail warning light problem though with an extra earthing cable.
The main earth is the front battery box to frame connection. I made up an extra earthing lead to the engine to cope with all the wires that go to that point.

                              Suzuki mad
