see my post about drilling holes in both pieces if you still have the top of the broken post and pinning them together disregard the parts about making a new top piece, i still have the pictures if you like.
          here is the excerpt.

get some round brass stock about the same diameter as the post is below the break PLUS allowing for some distance for a hole to be drilled in the center of the NEW post TOP that you will be be making and a pin to be fitted into the broken exsisting post, (you will have to cut and lower the top of the old broken post below the break and file it flat), drill a hole into the center of the new TOP of the post and the center of the shortened broken post, then fit a slightly over size pin (.003 in is fine) into both the new and old posts and tap them together, the brass pin will allow you to tweek the post slightly if necessary for alignment, shorten the total post height if you need to with a file. the pin can be made with a .070 dia brass rod chucked into a drill motor and lathed with a file to the proper diameter in this case .065 inches and the holes drilled into both posts with a .062 dia drill (1/16"). when you are satisfied that the post is the correct height and that it is straight, remove the new top of the post and drill the hole for the float pin.
if there is sufficient stock in the post a larger dia pin is fine also.
a bad picture is here, but you get the idea...

also do a search i think Mark used an aviation grade epoxy to glue them after pinning them.
