    GS850G carby problems??

    Hi all,

Newbie from Oz but have been a GS owner for 3 yrs. I have a very strange problem at the moment, my GS runs fine normally but every now and then, usually at speeds of 80 kp/h and over, it starts chugging as if it's getting too much/not enough air/oxygen. I've asked my mechanic about this and he's not too sure and can't really find anything wrong. Now for the weird bit... it mainly happens when I get hit by a strong headwind (I do a lot of freeway riding). Example, I'll be putting along at 110kp/h and all's well, gets a bit windy, big gust from the front, bike goes chugg chugg for a bit then comes good again no worries. I'm not the best mechanic but I'm thinking perhaps the carbies are getting a mouthful of air somehow from the wind which is starving them for a second or two of fuel.

Anyone had similar problems? Am I completely off track with my carby idea? I'm trying to avoid new carbies as I'm currenlty trying to secure the purchase of an 1100GK and don't want to spend the money if I can help it.

    Thanks

    The Squire

PS it's an '85 GS850G, all original and stock with 160,000km (100,000 miles). Bloody thing just won't die!!

I know you said it's stock, but I gotta ask... You don't have pod air filters attached to your carbs instead of the stock airbox/filter arrangement, do you?

Others have spoken of the very same thing, strong cross winds seem to be a problem for a few people causing a stutter or hesitation. problem with the vent lines or? i can't remember... ah heck go look for the post... found it!

No mate, no air pod etc, definitely 100% stock.

You could try removing, rerouting, or shortening the bowl vent lines. Sometimes a strange draft or turbulence across these lines will cause strange things like this. Or move your leg so the air swirls around in a different way.
