Main fuse keeps blowing, Battery Drains GS750E
I have an 1983 GS750E. The main fuse blows intermittently mostly right when ignition is turned on. Sometimes it will be blown during a time when bike is sitting (when battery is at full charge), Even when bike is off, and key is not in ignition the battery will be completely drained overnight. When fuse does not pop, bike runs and goes great but battery will eventually drain to zero.Tags: None

rustybronco probably has it right. If the battery drains when the key is off you have a short in the system somewhere. Get a 12 volt bulb that has leads attached to it. Remove the negative battery cable and attach the bulb to the negative cable and the battery terminal. The light will come on. Disconnect the R/R and if the light goes out the R/R is bad. If the R/R is bad test the stator for continuity and grounding per the stator papers. If it is grounded or fails a continuity test replace the stator also. If it passes those tests check the output. If thats OK go to E-Bay or somewhere and find a R/R for a CM model Honda and put that in. Wire the sensor lead to the tail light circuit, not the brake light circuit. If the light stays on after disconnecting the R/R begin pulling fuses until the light goes out. When it does repair the circuit for that fuse. LOL!

While your in there check the ac voltage output of the stator and the resistance of the stator windings as per the stator papers.
a wise man wrote this, take heed...
"Part of the job of fixing a faulty charging system -- and in fact the very first thing that you should start with when attacking ANY electrical problem on a bike -- is to check all electrical connections. Then, and only THEN, you start checking the components."Last edited by rustybronco; 05-30-2007, 04:10 PM.
