You may not need to grind it down at all. Ofr some reasone I decided to for my application. You want to do it after you have already run the oversized plug into the pan to cut the threads. It's beat if you do it with the pan off the bike. That way you cna check to see if the length is a problem. You coud always cut it off with a hacksaw then clean the end of the bolt up with a file.

It's been years so I don't remember exactly. Most likely it was going to block an oil galley or bottom out before getting tight.

Take a hammer "smooth faced if you would please" give the fill cap a few sharp "taps", then take a "cresent" wrench and place it over the ears of the fill cap, adjust it as necessary and turn it anti-clockwise, don't get crazy! if necessary repeat.

If it starts to damage the cap, put a block of wood on it first.

Are those plugs available at most auto parts stores or do I have to order one? The threads are a little iffy on my bike but the plug tightened up decently, good info to have for the future.

Many of them have them, just look in the section with all the universal odd-ball crap. Motormite is the brand name. The types of stores I usually see them in are the NAPA type shops.

Here's a link to the part number referenced in the archives.

Here's another link, you can also find different sizes.

It looks like a wonderful invention. I hope I never need one.

                    Thank you for your indulgence,

I got mine at autozone, thay had quite a few different sizes. But, I had to ask the guy behind the counter where they were.
