My exhaust blew up! PICS

I had a little scoot last night, and during some hevy engine braking I noticed a louder rumble coming from the right side. At first I thought it was just my ears popping as I was going down a long hill. (South Taylor hill to the peace river).

When I stopped this is what I saw:




So, Is it possible to wrap this in muffler tape until I can buy a V&H 4-1?

If not...
I've got a really crappy unknown 4-1 that I can probably make work until I get the new one. I'm going to have to check the carbs from the donor bike that had the crap 4-1 and see if they're different than stock.

Any recommendations?

Yup, i've seen this before...... the 'ol "potato jammed in the GS exhaust trick"

BTW was somebody jumping school buses with that GS with no landing ramp, or did the previous owner weigh 400 lbs. ?

BTW on the BTW...that bike clearly is a racing machine as evidenced by the lightweight detailing on the brake lever.

It's a redneck dragracer. A friend said he had ridden it when it was in it's prime. Said it went like mad.

I've used an exhaust repair "tape" from the auto parts store before. It's a fiberglass matting type material impregnated with (supposedly) a heat activated epoxy. You wrap it on, secure with included wire, then the heat of the exhaust melts the glue and cements it to the pipe. I bet that'd work pretty well in your situation for a quick/temp fix. The stuff I used was red and came in yellow packaging but I've seen other colors. Might want to buttress it with some thin metal wrapped around first for strength (or something like that).

Yeah put on whatever goo-and-mesh you choose first. Then while still wet wrap the skin of a beer can (or a couple of beer cans) around and then use large hose clamps to secure them. Let it dry for a couple of days. This kind of repair can last for months.

Tear into the organ donor and find out what you have! It might surprise you, after all.......that bike, at one time, had enough LAUNCH, to shred those standard rear shocks!!!!!! [-( :-D

just use the pipe on the doner, looks kind of like a old yosh pipe? got any better pictures of end of the pipes, bythe painted over badge in the back? should be stamped metal with a brand on it.

worst case like everyone said tape it up while doing that get that other pipe sand blasted and painted with rustolemoum 2100 grill paint.

and check the carbs to see what kind of jets are in it.

start digging into the donor, may it has some good things, it's kind of like x-mas when you get something like that.

You can get a stainless band clamp at an exhaust shop, or a truck shop,( they are made for truck exhaust) they cost about 10 bucks, 3.5 or 4 inch diameter, if it is too big they can be shortened, they are about 3 inches long and should patch that mess up nicely for now.
